JNCIS-SP Lab: Configuring BSR


In this lab, I use Juniper M7i Router(JUNOS 12.3R6.6) to finish this Bootstrap Router (BSR) Multicast protocols lab.
Before we start lab, we need to load pre-configuration for this Lab.
Note: Olive do not support Multicast now.

2. For setting BSR, we will need to setup sparse mode on all routes interfaces.
Note: Static RP runs sparse mode, Auto RP runs sparse-dense mode, BSR runs sparse mode.

3. R1 is a RP. R2 is a Candidate-RP (Backup RP).
Note: By default, the priority value is set to 1. Use a smaller number to increase the likelihood that the routing device becomes the RP for local multicast groups.

4. Configuring R4 is a BSR router, R3 is a Candidate-BSR router (Backup BSR).
Note: By default, each routing device has a bootstrap priority of 0, which means the routing device can never be the bootstrap routing device. The routing device with the highest priority value is elected to be the bootstrap routing device. If both routers' priority value are same, the routing device with the highest IP address is elected to be the bootstrap routing device.

5. Fro testing multicast traffic, we need create IGMP static group membership to test multicast forwarding packets.
Note: Just like the Cisco IOS command : ip igmp join-group
